If you’ve been around Simply2Moms for a while, then you know that AnnMarie has dogs in her home, and Anne has cats in hers.

It’s funny that whichever type of furry friend your family adopts when you’re growing up, the odds are good that that’s the type you’ll end up welcoming into your home as an adult.

Anne has definitely seen this happen with all three of her kids!

She has three older cats in her home, her son and his girlfriend have two, her daughter and her fiance have two, and her other daughter fosters kittens when she’s at college.

Over the years, Anne and her husband have tried all kinds of cat care products.

Some have been duds, while others are truly the cream of the crop!

Today, Anne’s sharing some of her family’s favorite things for their cats. Wait until you see what she found to get rid of any kind of pet hair on your furniture or clothes!

The Best Cat Drinking Fountain and Automatic Feeder

One of the reasons our family has adopted cats instead of dogs is that they’re more independent.

While they prefer sitting close to us and sleeping with us, they can also be left alone for a day (or two!) and be just fine.

We always had to travel a few hours each way to visit family. It was nice to not have to worry about arranging (and paying) for someone to let them out.

We could put out extra food and know that they’d be just fine, even over night.

This automatic pet food dispenser is fantastic because it helps minimize our one fat cat (fondly referred to as Miss Piggy) from eating all the extra food!

Plus it keeps the food fresh.

We actually use it all the time, and it’s wonderful on mornings when we want to sleep a bit later.

It comes in several sizes, including one with multiple dishes, and you can choose between white or black.

Did you know that cats prefer drinking water that’s moving?

It all goes back to their natural instincts because moving water is generally more clean.

You can encourage them to drink more water by providing them with a pet drinking fountain.

We’ve used a pet drinking fountain for over a decade, but it wasn’t the most aesthetic contraption.

This Nugget Fountain has a really quiet pump and holds 2.5 liters of water which is enough for about 4 days with our kitties.

It filters the water and even has dry-run protection to prevent the motor from burning out. You can find it in white, black, or green.

Since our cats sometimes like to splash in the water, we use this silicone mat that has a lip around the edge to protect our wood floors.

Our Favorite Litter Box Accessories

Nonstick coated metal kitty litter scoop and kitty litter mat to prevent tracking of kitty litter.

Okay, so the litter box is probably my least favorite part of having cats.

Although, you’re going to have to scoop or pick up the poo whether you have cats or dogs!

It’s just the nature of having furry family members, right?

We prefer using clumping litter for multi-cat households with baking soda to control odor.

My husband claims that this nonstick metal kitty litter scoop is a complete game changer when it comes to scooping the box.

It’s sturdy enough to get down to the bottom of the box, even if the layer of litter is deep, and nothing sticks to it.

Meanwhile, I love this kitty litter mat. It’s the best one we’ve found to reduce how much litter gets tracked into the rest of our house.

It’s not foolproof, but it really makes a difference, especially since we don’t have carpet.

Interactive Cat Toys

Every cat is a little different when it comes to which toys they prefer.

Some of our cats love springs, while others love the crinkly balls, and a few are attached to little stuffed toys.

Laser pointers and dangling toys are popular too.

The one kind of toy all our cats agree on are interactive toys that include some kind of treat!

I discovered this cardboard puzzle feeder last Christmas and got one for all our families.

It has three levels of difficulty so cats who aren’t as clever can still get some treats. But it is still challenging for brighter kitties.

We’ve found our cats are equally motivated by kibble and treats with this puzzle toy.

My “grand” kitty just celebrated her birthday and she loves the puzzle feeder!

I found this more complex activity mat for her and she really enjoys figuring out how each of the challenges work.

There are six different challenges, some harder than others, and it keeps her occupied for a while.

Scratching Posts, Mats, and Cat Towers

We don’t declaw our kitties, so we like to provide them with options for sharpening their claws.

Full disclosure: they’ve destroyed some upholstered furniture which is why we have leather.

Their favorite place to scratch is our carpeting, so I have to stay on top of that and trim any loose strings they may cause.

However, they also like the cardboard scratchers.

I’m super happy they also love this aesthetic natural wood and sisal scratching pad with the ball track.

This Christmas, I’m planning to add a cat tree for them because the newer ones are actually very nice looking!

I can’t decide whether I prefer this one with baskets and natural branches.

Or this one with baskets and platforms. What do you think?

My Number One Grooming Tool

We’ve had both long haired and short haired cats.

Over the years, we’ve tried all kinds of grooming tools but one has been the clear winner.

The grooming mits are okay, but they don’t really get any fur that’s under the surface.

None of our cats have cared for the “slicker” style of brush with all the tiny curved metal hooks.

The one brush that gets the job done for all our cats, that they also enjoy us using, is the Furminator shedding brush.

Somehow or another it magically gets to the undercoat while not scratching or irritating their skin.

As for clipping their claws, I just use regular nail clippers.

The Best Way to Remove Pet Hair!

Whether you have cats or dogs, this one is for you!

No matter how well we brush our kitties, they always leave a furry deposit in the spots where they sleep the most.

Ironically, our black kitties prefer sleeping on white comforters and pillows.

Because of course they do.

I’ve used all kinds of things to get rid of the fur from silicone gloves to lint rollers.

The gloves are only marginally effective. And I sometimes go through 4-6 adhesive sheets with the lint rollers!

Recently, I discovered the Chom Chom Roller.

It’s a reusable pet hair remover that has a combination of brushes and a rubbery piece that magically guides the fur into a collection chamber.

It works on clothes, furniture, blankets, pillows, and shoes.

There are probably more places that it would work, but so far those are the only spots I’ve tried it!

I’ve used it on my clothes after coming back from AnnMarie’s house and it’s fantastic on dog hair too.

I love that it’s safe enough to use on clothing, it’s easy to clean, and it’s economical and environmentally-friendly since you don’t have to keep replacing sticky sheets.

While it will remove fur from the surface of my berber rug, it isn’t designed to pull up fur from deeper in carpeting.

If you have carpet with a pile in your home, be sure to check out the Uproot Pet Hair Remover because it gets down lower into the pile. I loved using it on our stairs when they were carpeted!

Do you have cats in your home too? What are some of your favorite things you use all the time to care for them?
