Where to Host a Celebration for Dad
Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the men in our lives.
Whether it’s your dad, stepdad, husband, grandfather, uncle, or another special man, take some time to show them how much you appreciate them.
I know that not everyone has a dad in their life.
Maybe your dad passed away, or maybe you were never close to him.
If that’s the case, I want you to know that you’re not alone.
If you’re looking for something a little different than the usual gift, why not try setting up a special Father’s Day tablescape?
A tablescape is a great way to set the mood for a special meal, and it’s a great way to show your dad how much you care.
A casual, outdoor tablescape is an amazing way to celebrate summer and Father’s Day.
You can set up your table on the patio, deck, or even in the backyard.
The fresh air and sunshine will make for a more relaxed and casual atmosphere, perfect for a day of grilling and spending time with family.
How to Create a Fun Vintage Centerpiece
To create a rustic and masculine look, you can use a vintage toolbox as a centerpiece, and fill it with old neckties.
This will be a unique and personal touch that any dad is sure to love.
Although my husband no longer has to wear a tie anymore when he goes to the office I thought it would be a fun idea to add them to the centerpiece design in honor of him.
The antique tools and toolbox are a nod to my own dad who was a plumber by trade before he retired.
I always remember my dad carrying a wood folding ruler in his back pocket when he worked on anything around the house.
The last time I was visiting, I asked my dad if I could have one of his old rulers.
I had seen one in an antique store a while back that I almost bought but then thought it would be so much more meaningful to have one from my dad instead.
The other vintage tools and all the neckties were found locally either at a vintage store or Goodwill.
But if you’re looking for vintage items like these, I’ve sourced very similar options for you here or you can see them at the end of this post.
Should You Include Flowers on a Masculine Tablescape
In my opinion, you can definitely add flowers to a Father’s Day tablescape.
Something simple would be a perfect addition to any style centerpiece.
I tucked a small pot of white Vinca summer annuals in a piece of burlap and then added both to a galvanized bucket.
The rustic look of the burlap and pail brings a more masculine vibe to Dad’s celebration table.
A bucket of flowers on either side of the green antique toolbox completes this fun centerpiece design.
How to Set a Father’s Day Table Outside
To create a casual outdoor tablescape, start with simple dishes that can easily be cleaned up after your meal.
These reusable bamboo tonal melamine plates and checkered patterned bowls are perfect for dining outside.
You can even use paper plates if you prefer for your bbq picnic.
Wrapping your plastic cutlery makes it look just a little bit nicer.
I used a classic blue pin-striped paper napkin and some jute twine with clear plastic forks and knives.
It’s really easy to get this look by taking a paper napkin that coordinates with your table and wrapping it around the plastic utensils.
Then just tie it with a piece of jute twine for a rustic look.
What Themed Items Can You Use to Design a Table
The centerpiece of any tablescape is where the majority of your themed table decor will be displayed.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t extend your theme past the middle of your table.
Adding unique pieces to each of the place settings gives you another area to bring your theme to life.
Newspapers have long been considered quintessential dad reading material so it seemed only fitting to add a folded page between each plate and bowl to add to the vintage theme.
Of course, some Dad’s root beer in classic glass bottles is a fun part of each place setting as well.
No matter what the theme of your Father’s Day tablescape try to find some festive and creative items to style your table with.
Here are a few more ideas that you may like:
- If your dad has a favorite sports team, you can use their colors as inspiration for your tablescape.
- You can also add a personal touch by using items that your dad has collected over the years. For example, you could use a baseball he caught at a game or a fishing lure he caught a big fish with.
- Don’t forget to have fun with it! The most important thing is that you show your dad or other special guy in your life how much you appreciate him.
Additional Tips for an Incredible Father’s Day Tablescape
Here are some additional tips for creating a casual, outdoor Father’s Day tablescape:
- Use natural materials, such as wood and stone.
- Add pops of color with flowers, candles, or tableware.
- Set out your dad’s favorite foods and drinks.
- Don’t forget the personal touches!
