These simple jute napkin rings can be dressed up or down. Follow step-by-step instructions for an easy budget-friendly DIY project.
How many times have you looked at something in a store and thought to yourself, “I could make that for so much less!”
If you’re anything like AnnMarie and me, probably a lot of times.
Usually, when that happens I snap a picture of it, put it down, and never end up actually making it.
Or, I try to make it and it ends up costing me way more than I thought it would to make it on my own.
But not today.
I actually made something I snapped a picture of and it was even easier to make than I thought it would be.
Oh, and did I mention it costs less than 50 cents apiece to make these?

I saw simple jute-wrapped napkin rings while shopping in Kirklands a few years ago, and each one cost $4.99.
So a set of 6 would be almost $30!
The napkin rings had lemons attached to them, so they would only work for very specific tablescapes.

I decided to keep these napkin rings really simple and not attach any kind of decoration to the actual rings.
That way they could easily be dressed up to work with any theme!

Slip a few floral stems in along with the napkin for a pretty spring or summer table.
Add a sprig of evergreen for Christmas or winter.
Wire a little pumpkin onto them for a fun fall table.
Stack a few of them together for a chunkier look.

Or keep it simple and just use one on its own.
Truly these easy jute napkin rings are so versatile!
They’ll work for almost any decorating style: farmhouse, cottage, transitional, traditional, and even minimalist.
Wait until you see how easy they are to make!

You only need a few supplies to make this easy craft.
- 1.5-inch book rings
- Hemp cord or jute twine
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
I’ve tried making these napkin rings with regular jute twine, but discovered I really prefer the way they look when I use hemp cord.
Hemp cord is smoother, denser, and a bit thicker so it’s much easier to work with.
1: Open a book ring

2: Use hot glue to attach one end of the hemp cord just below the latch

3: Tightly wrap the cord around the book ring

4: Close the book ring when you’re close to the end, then finish wrapping the cord, cut it and attach the end with hot glue.

5: Find a cloth napkin and use your new napkin ring!
