“Those we love can never be more than a thought away…
for as long as there is a memory they live in our hearts to stay”
I lost my mom to cancer when she was only 43 years old. It wasn’t easy at 23 but for my sister who was just a child…only 8 years old…it was even more difficult. Can you imagine? Well, I guess I sort of can. But honestly you guys…every time one of my kids was the age she was when our mom died I would think “how would they do this without me”.
My sister and I have always been close despite our age difference. I tell everyone that she was the greatest gift my mom ever gave me. It was like she knew my dad & I would need her to keep us going after she was gone.
Naturally, we are pretty sentimental and being the older sister I always thought I had the upper hand in that area of our relationship. But she surprised me on her wedding day (8 years ago!) when she handed my daughter (who was her flower girl) and I each a gift. Inside we found one of the most precious sentimental gifts…pearl bracelets that were made from our mother’s necklace. My sister had three bracelets crafted from a long pearl necklace she inherited after our mom died. We all had a treasured remembrance of our mom and grandma to wear for her wedding day.
Last weekend we all gathered in Florida for our step sister’s wedding. It was a beautiful day and we all cherished the time we had together celebrating. We had the perfect accessory for our outfits…we all wore those pearl bracelets!
Treasured Pearls
“The most treasured heirlooms are the sweet memories of family”
These bracelets are a simple reminder to us to live life to its fullest because tomorrow is never a guarantee. I hope you all take the time to today to tell your loved ones how much they mean to you.
