Are you heading off to college this year?

Or maybe you have a daughter who’s getting ready to go away to school?

Either way, we’ve had a bit of experience with dorm rooms.

First, we both were students living in college dorms…waaaaay back when.

Ahem…I won’t say how long ago that was. LOL

But let’s just say we’re now at the age that we’ve helped our own children prepare to go to college.

Between the two of us we’ve moved five students into their dorms for freshman year.

We know what an exciting time it is for teenagers, but also a bittersweet time for us mamas.

Are we right?!

As moms, we want to help our kids get settled and comfortable in their new home away from home.

We can help them do that with decorating their dorm rooms in a style that matches their personality.

Let them take the décor wheel and design a space that they will love!

Gold has been making a big come back in home décor in recent years.

So, why not add gold accents to a girls college dorm room?

Pink is a beautiful complimentary color to gold.

Is there anything more feminine than a pretty pink and gold room?

No matter what style you decide to use for your décor, bedding is probably one of the important elements.

Dorm beds don’t come with a headboard, so adding this pretty white tufted headboard adds softness to the bed.

A gorgeous velvet comforter set along with a cozy fur throw blanket and several pillows creates a comfy bed.

Remember most college dorms have extra long beds, so be sure to purchase all bedding in twin xl sizes.

Storage is another important aspect of any dorm room because most college dorms have pretty small rooms.

And often those small rooms are shared with at least one roommate.

These pretty gold mesh bins can be used on a student’s desk or shelf and are perfect to store small every day items.

A lidded storage bench is a great dual purpose item.

Dorm rooms can always use extra seating when friends stop by for a visit…then just lift the lid and you’ve got tons of storage with this pretty pink velvet bench.

Don’t forget to add special pink and gold décor to complete this gorgeous dorm room like this peony faux flower garland or this white pom pom string light set.

How cool would it be to have this DIY vanity tray right at your desk?

Do you love high contract neutrals and earth tone colors?

Are you a free spirit who likes to express your artistic style?

Then you may want to decorate your college dorm room in a bohemian style?

The Boho style is all about texture!

Adding different textures with this affordable tufted bedding set and rust colored fringe throw pillow looks gorgeous together.

A fun jute and cotton poof not only creates more boho style, it also provides extra seating in a small space.

This woven striped area rug is another essential to make your boho style room cozy.

There are some really cool wall pieces that you can find for a girls college dorm room.

When looking for wall art keep in mind many dorm rooms have cinderblock walls.

Colleges may also have rules about how to hang things on the walls…you most likely won’t be using nails or screws.

Light weight art like a colorful boho tapestry wall hanging or a fun dream catcher are easy to hang in dorms.

A pretty framed piece of boho art with plexiglass is safer & lighter than art with regular glass.

Who remembers macramé?

Well, it’s back in a big way with the bohemian décor style!

A set of macramé storage bins are great for so many things…school supplies, toiletries, and more.

Extra shelving is always a good idea in a small room and a wood & macramé shelf is perfect for a boho dorm room.

Grab a fun amber bottle and fill it with faux pampas grass stems for a cool boho vibe.
