If you’re looking for something cool and comfortable to wear this summer, a casual maxi dress is a great option. Wait until you see these cute options from Amazon!
As the temperatures begin to rise during the hot summer months do you find yourself looking for something comfortable to throw on?
An outfit that will keep you looking and feeling cool all day long?
Something that’s easy to wear but still looks super cute?
If this sounds like the perfect summer outfit for you then you’re in luck because a maxi dress may be just what you’ve been looking for.
Maxi dresses are long and flowy, which makes them an excellent choice for hot weather.
They’re also very versatile, so you can dress them up or down depending on the occasion.
A casual long dress is a great option to wear whether you’re spending the day running errands, hanging out with family, or attending a backyard cookout party.
A maxi dress is comfortable and stylish for date nights, dinner with friends, or cocktails with the girls.
I ordered six different dresses from Amazon to try on and I can’t wait to share my thoughts about each one with you.

Amazon Summer Maxi Dress Try On
Last week I tried on some tops from Amazon and shared a bit about how I feel about clothing so if you want to read that just click this link.
I mentioned that my arms have gotten a bit thicker since I’ve gotten older, so I prefer to wear dresses that cover my upper arms.
Every once in a while I’ll wear something without sleeves if it’s just too dang hot out.
You’ll see a few of the maxi dresses I tried on have a very similar style because I really liked the look and wanted to compare different brands.
Here are my stats for your reference:
- Height 5’6″
- 160 lbs
- 36C bra
- medium or large dress size depending on the style
Crew Neck T-Shirt Maxi Dress
The first three dresses I tried on are all the same style because I really…really wanted one of them to work for my curvy figure.
Anne has several sleeveless maxi t-shirt dresses in different colors and I’ve admired them since last summer when she got her first one.
Then she got a few more because the style looks amazing on her!
Check out that photo of us together!
I was hoping to find the same look but with sleeves for me so I ordered three different clothing brands from Amazon.
The first one is this crew neck t-shirt dress with split sides in black.
It’s available in 30 different colors and it’s made of rayon, polyester, and spandex.
Although I’m wearing a large it’s definitely not as loose and flowy on me as it is on the model.
V-Neck and Backless Long Dress
The second dress also has side splits but this one is a V-neck rather than a round neck.
This maxi dress also has a V in the back and is described as backless.
You’ll have to check out the video on social media where I do a little spin in each dress so you can see it from every angle.
I’m wearing this dress in black but it’s offered in 45 color and pattern options.
The dress is also made of a rayon blend like the previous style.
I’m in a size large and it’s a little more clingy to my curves than I’d like.
Long Casual Dress with Short Sleeves
The third dress in this side split style is another V-neck with short sleeves in black made from rayon and spandex.
And it has pockets!
Actually, so far all of these maxi dresses I’ve tried on have had pockets which I totally love.
Again I’m wearing a size large in this option but unfortunately, it hugs all the wrong parts of my figure.
Although all three dresses are described as flowy and certainly look super loose on the models this style doesn’t flow on my body…it clings.
Well, you can’t say I didn’t try…I did order three of them. lol
As I’m writing this blog post and looking at the photos I keep thinking they don’t look too bad…they’re actually kinda cute.
But then I watch the videos my daughter took and I remember feeling uncomfortable in each of these dresses.
The whole point of a maxi dress is to be comfortable and if you don’t feel that way then just return them…that’s the beauty of Amazon.
After trying this style on from three different brands in my opinion they don’t work for me because of the material they’re made out of.
I feel the spandex gives the dress some stretch but when combined with the rayon it was too fitted in some areas.
Off the Shoulder Maxi Dress
I bought this long off-the-shoulder dress last year in black (surprised?) and wore it often last summer.
It’s actually the dress I’m wearing in the picture with Anne above.
This maxi dress has side splits and pockets like the other options I tried on.
However, this one is cotton and spandex rather than rayon.
I’m wearing a size medium.
It also has a tunic waist and hangs fairly loose on me which I like.
I knew this style was more flattering on me so I’d order another one in a different color.
This is the Plumred color and looks much brighter in person more red than plum than shown online but I do really like this color.
Available in 23 colors with a few floral patterns as well.
I may need to order a third one…what color should I get next?
Boho Floral Print Dress
I went out of my comfort zone and ordered a patterned maxi dress.
If you know me solid colors are my jam…especially black!
This pretty blue floral boho-style maxi dress has a cinched waist and V-neck.
It’s made from 100% viscose and is very lightweight, flowy, and comfortable.
I’m wearing a size large and I think it’s a little big on me so I may have been better off with a medium.
There are 19 different floral patterns to choose from.
Off Shoulder Long Romper Jumpsuit
So this one isn’t technically a maxi dress.
Okay, it’s not a dress at all… it’s a long one-piece romper jumpsuit.
But it is comfortable and loose fitting so it kinda goes along with the maxi dress theme here, right?
As soon as spring hit I kept seeing fashion influencers share this long jumpsuit on social media.
And although I loved it I didn’t think it would look good on me.
I’ve tried one-piece outfits like this before and they just don’t work because I’m short-waisted.
Skirts are always a no go for me too.
I mean by this age you start to figure out what styles work and what doesn’t on your body.
Since I was ordering a bunch of outfits to try on I figured what the heck and I quickly added this one to my cart too.
And boy am I glad I did because I really love it…it’s super comfy and would make a great outfit to travel in.
