How to Create a Beautiful Italian Themed Tablescape

Hosting a dinner party? Everyone loves Italian food! Check out these tips to create a beautiful Italian themed tablescape for your gathering.

It’s that time of the month!

Our virtual dinner club party is here!!

And this month is a good one…

It’s an Italian dinner party!

I mean seriously, who doesn’t love Italian food?

We sure do!

But I’ll be honest with you, I was a bit worried about creating an Italian themed tablescape.

Italian food…easy!

Italian décor…umm not too sure about that one.

All I could think of was red & white checked tablecloths with faux grapes hanging from the chandelier. LOL

A quick search on Pinterest put my mind at ease and helped me create a plan for my Italian style tablescape.

If you’ve been around our blog for a while you may know that we started this virtual supper club with some of our blogging friends last year.

I can’t believe it’s been over a year already… time sure does fly when you’re having fun.

And that’s just what we do each and every month when we get together with our friends Stacy, Rachel, Jen, and Michele…have lots of fun sharing our tablescapes and recipes with you.

Wait until you see everyone’s gorgeous Italian themed tablescapes at the end of this post.

You can also check out my previous tablescapes for even more inspiration at the bottom of the article.

But no dinner party is complete without an amazing menu!

We’ve got Italian dinner party recipe ideas from the cocktail through dessert.

If you’re joining us from Jen from Midwest Life & Style or if you’re new to our blog…

What Did I Use to Style an Italian Tablescape?

Now that I’ve been styling tablescapes every month for the past year, I’ve collected a few fun staple items.

Although, I’ve used my own dishes, stemware and flatware for most of my tables, it’s fun to grab a few new things too.

This month I found those super cute mini round acadia wood cutting boards at Hobby Lobby.

Unfortunately, they’re out of stock online but you may be able to find them in your local store or check these out.

The ticking striped linen napkins, are from one of our favorite stores Piper Classics, and coordinate perfectly with the rest of the place setting pieces I used when styling my Italian tablescape.

They are currently out of stock, but I found these similar ticking striped linen napkins.

How To Create a Neutral Centerpiece

The first step in styling a tablescape is to create a beautiful centerpiece for your table.

For this Italian themed table, I decided to put together a neutral centerpiece that would not only be perfect for the dinner party but also for everyday décor in my dining room.

Greenery and candles set the stage for this centerpiece but the faux olive branch stems are the star of the show.

What’s better than olive branches for an Italian themed dinner party?

You can get all the details of exactly how I created this centerpiece here.

How to Set Each Place Setting

I set the table with pieces I already had like my water hyacinth round charger mats.

These are a bit larger than a regular size charger so, I usually add another charger on top of the seagrass.

For this table, I added a matte black metal charger that compliments the water hyacinth beautifully.

Then, I added my every day dinner and salad plates with a striped napkin in between.

On top of each plate, I placed a small round wood cutting board as a bread plate.

A small square bowl to the left of the plates for an olive oil dipping dish.

I pulled out my silverware box that I keep stored away for special occasions and set the table with the flatware we received as a wedding gift.

How fun are these little glass bottles of San Pellegrino?

The sparkling water bottles and two wine glasses complete each table setting.

What’s an Italian Themed Table without Bread or Wine?

An Italian themed dinner party has to include bread and wine…am I right?!

I dressed up small crusty rolls, I bought at the grocery store, by wrapping them in Kraft colored tissue paper and tying them with string.

Setting the rolls on small cutting boards and adding a sprig of fresh rosemary not only looks pretty, but is a necessity to an Italian dinner!

And you can’t have bread or rolls without some olive oil dip.

I found Italian olive oil, Italian balsamic vinegar and Italian herb salts in Home Goods.

Did you know Home Goods is a great place to find some unique food items?

Don’t forget the wine!

Whether you are a red or white wine lover, there is an Italian wine for you.

You can easily find Italian wine in most stores…I found these right in BJ’s wholesale club.

How to Decorate a Dining Room for an Italian Dinner Party

Don’t forget to add a bit of your dinner party theme in other areas of your home.

I have two small sideboard console tables in our dining room.

I added a few decorative glass bottles with an olive branch on a wood charger tray.

And few extra bottles of San Pellegrino within reach of the table.

A wood bowl filled with extra rolls is placed on the other console table.

Since this sideboard is a little larger, I like to leave space there for the food.
