It’s almost summer…well according to the calendar. But the weather has felt like summertime for a while here in North Carolina. And our kids are out of school so it’s kinda already summer in our house. Do you decorate your home for each new season?
If you are like me and you don’t really decorate your home much for holidays (other than Christmas, of course) then you may need to get yourself a tiered tray. Trays are so versatile and can be used as a simple way to add holiday or seasonal decor to your home. My first attempt at styling a tiered tray was this past spring when I styled my galvanized two-tiered tray for Easter. But since then my tray has been stored away in my pantry closet. I decided to bring it out and style it for summer.
I kept seeing all the patriotic decor accessories in home stores. Then yesterday I found a small sign in Michaels with a quote by Abraham Lincoln that I love. I’ve seen this quote on other wall art and have wanted to add it somewhere in our home. The decision was made…a patriotic theme was the perfect way to decorate my galvanized two-tiered tray for summer.
After grabbing a few extra supplies at Hobby Lobby (mini American flags, galvanized & wood stars, and a string of wood beads) I went home to style the tray with new pieces in addition to some items I already had at home. Follow these four simple steps to style a patriotic tiered tray:
1. Anchor Piece
The new Abraham Lincoln quote sign I bought is the anchor piece on the bottom of the tray since it is the biggest item. Plus that sign is great, isn’t it!?
2. Greenery
Adding two faux plants I had on hand helps fill the space and adds some natural color. I placed one plant on each tier of the tray.
3. Other Natural Elements
I had these twine and wood orbs so just added a few to both the top and bottom of the tray. The new strand of wood beads hang from the top tier down over the edge.
4. Decorative Items
The mini American flags were placed in a mason jar with a wire grid top to hold them in place. Placing the flags on the top of the tray balances out the anchor item on the bottom. Then the red metal orb adds a pop of color to go with our patriotic theme. Finally adding a galvanized & wood star to both the top and bottom tiers of our tray is the perfect finishing touch to our patriotic tiered tray.
