Good morning, Sunshine!

How’s your weekend going?

I’m writing this on Friday (this is Anne writing to you this week), so I’m not sure how mine is actually going…

But.

I’m really really optimistic!

You see, I’m sitting here in the airport, and getting ready to surprise a super special someone:

My dad!

About 15 minutes before we were supposed to board, the desk attendant announced that our plane was being taken out of service…

And they would let us know IF a new plane was available!

Yikes!

Don’t get me wrong.

I would always rather stay on the ground and be a little late than get into a plane that shouldn’t be in the air.

But it made the afternoon a little more, ummm, exciting than I had planned?

LOL

Why am I headed to Maryland to see him?

Well.

Do you know what October 18 is?

If you guessed his birthday, you’d be 100% right.

But October 18, 2021 is a really special birthday.

Somehow (and I’m not sure how it’s possible), my dad is turning 80 this year!

As I sit here right now, I’m about 40 minutes away from boarding the new plane, and I’m super excited!

When I get there, another special someone is picking me up…

It’s my sister!

And we’ve got a girls’ night planned with just the two of us.

There will be wine… and dinner… and definitely some chocolate… and lots of laughs because that’s what we do.

What a treat!

Tomorrow, we get to spend the day together and I get to see my brother-in-law and my two gorgeous nieces.

Then, we’re headed up to a restaurant where my dad is having a birthday dinner.

He has no idea I’m going to be there!

I’m still trying to figure out how to show up.

There are a few fun options:

  1. Wait in the car until they’re seated and then walk into the restaurant and surprise him.
  2. Hide in the bathroom, wait until they’re seated and then walk to the table and surprise him.
  3. Get there early and be AT the table when they’re seated and, well, you get the gist: surprise him!

No matter how you slice it, there will be a surprise.

And probably some tears.

Definitely a lot of smiles and laughs.

I can’t wait!

I’ll tell you all about it next week.

I wish that my kids and husband could make it too, but this all came about rather suddenly.

He hadn’t been feeling well a few weeks ago, so Mom wasn’t really planning anything.

Then she texted me and let me know they were doing a small dinner and wondered if we’d possibly be able to make it.

The kids are all either in the middle of midterm exams or working.

My husband wasn’t able to make it work because of his job and mandatory meetings all day today, but I had an airline credit.

For almost the exact amount it costs to fly from Charlotte to Baltimore.

So here I am!

Have you ever surprised someone like this?

How did you do it?

Tell me about it in the comments down below!

This Week on the Blog

We had a lot of fun over on the blog this week!

Of course, we generally do…

Vintage amber glass goblet on a fall tablescape

Guess how I used this vintage goblet!

heirloom pumpkins and gourd with small mum in large lantern on front steps of porch

You’re going to love AnnMarie’s hack for turning something that was broken into something amazing on her front porch!

And we both shared all the details about helping a friend get her shop ready for Christmas! Wait until you see the after pictures!

More Inspiration You’ll Love

I’d like to introduce you to a friend we met first through a mentoring group we joined. Then we got to meet her in person this summer at The Haven conference!

She lives in Virginia and has a fantastic blog with all kinds of inspiring ideas that we’ve shared before.

However, today we’re sharing her for a different reason. Paula was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She never smoked. It’s just “one of those things.”

While her decorating ideas are great, I’m most inspired by the grace with which she’s handling her battle and the candor with which she shares it. If you’ve not met Paula before, please go check out her blog, Virginia Sweet Pea! You’ll be so glad that you did.

We found some other fun ideas for you too…
