Our week in review: May 15 – 21. We’re talking about home projects, gift ideas, flowers, dogs, and more.
Happy Sunday!
We hope you had an amazing week.
It was another busy one for both of us and we enjoyed unwinding Friday night with our husbands.
Anne and Kevin are more adventurous eaters and finally talked AnnMarie and Chris into trying something new so we went to Capicua Latin Cuisine and Bar.
And guess what?
They both really enjoyed their meals…so here’s to trying new things!
If you’re local you need to try this place out.
It’s tucked away behind BJ’s Wholesale Club and their menu includes authentic Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Dominican dishes.
We also did a little shopping Friday afternoon before dinner to look for some new things for our homes.
Anne hit up the antique store and then met AnnMarie at HomeGoods where we shopped for some fun outdoor accents.
We can’t wait to spruce up our spaces for summer and share them with you so stay tuned to see the changes!
AnnMarie’s Week

It was a beautiful week here in North Carolina.
This time of year is probably my favorite…the pollen is pretty much gone but it’s not too hot yet.
It was actually cooler than normal this week so it was a perfect week to move my laptop from the kitchen table outside to the deck to work.
I finally planted my annual summer flowers and they look so pretty.
We’re also dog-sitting Sloane this week while Jake is on vacation in Florida.
I know she lives with us but it’s a whole different story having her overnight…let’s just say she’s a bit spoiled and takes up a lot of space in the bed.
But we adore her…I mean seriously look how sweet she is when she naps with me on the deck while I’m blogging.
Anne’s Week

Apparently, AnnMarie and I both need to add “pet sitter” to our resume, because I got to watch my son’s kittens this week too!
Meet “Beanut,” the cute name Ryan & Sophie use for Beans (sitting) and Peanut (lying down).
They hung out in my attic for part of last week and this week, and I loved getting to play and snuggle them again.
They’re a lot bigger now than when they were when we discovered them under the house we renovated last September!
I also took advantage of this gorgeous weather to get my pots planted as well as some annuals by the pool.
I’m notorious for killing my potted plants, so this year I’m trying something new: terracotta watering spikes.
They’re made to hold a water bottle, or you can get these fun plastic wine bottles, and slowly release the water from the bottle into the pots.
They’ve got fantastic ratings on Amazon, so I’m hopeful that this may be the year my pots survive!
I’ll keep you posted on how they work once it gets hot around here.
This Week on Simply2Moms

This week we’ve shifted gears on the blog and have some simple DIY projects for you for inside and outside your home.

Do you want to hang photos in your home but don’t want to use nails or adhesive strips?
Check out this ingenious solution for hanging on drywall: 3M claw hangers.
Anne shared how they actually work and some tips for getting a perfectly level and spaced grid photo gallery wall.

Do you have an outdoor firepit?
See how AnnMarie made this affordable tabletop cover for their firepit out of budget-friendly fence pickets.
Not only does it protect your firepit from the elements it also serves as a place to set drinks and snacks when not using the firepit.

Do you have a piece of furniture made from dark wood that you want to paint a light color?
This furniture flip shows you how to paint with chalk paint and how to prevent the tannins from the dark wood from bleeding through.
You won’t believe how it looks now!

We turned our attention to high school graduates this week for our Friday Favorites.
We’ve rounded up 15 amazing high school graduation gift ideas under $50.
Bonus: all these ideas are from Amazon so they’re super simple to order now and get in no time!

AnnMarie wanted to toss her weathered Adirondack chairs but new ones weren’t in the budget so she rolled up her sleeves and got to work refinishing them.
