What You Need to Know About Creating a Gorgeous Neutral Christmas Fireplace

Learn how to create a gorgeous neutral Christmas fireplace using seasonal greenery and white upcycled candlesticks.

I have really been drawn to green in my home decor lately.

Not sure why.

Maybe it’s because green is my favorite color…I think because it’s the color of the trees and grass in the summer.

And summertime is my fave season of the year…well besides Christmas but that’s not really a season, is it?!

Last year I started collecting more Christmas trees and this holiday season I’ve added even more greenery around my home and I’m loving it.

You can check out all the ways Anne and I used both faux and real greenery this year here.

When I started thinking about how I wanted to decorate my fireplace I decided I wanted to continue the theme I had started in my house this holiday season…NEUTRAL.

Are You Team Wood-burning or Gas

Hey there!

Is there anything better than sitting next to a cozy fire?

Are you team wood or gas fireplace?

We had a wood-burning fireplace in our old house in New Jersey but we didn’t use it much.

Even though we now live in North Carolina I use our gas fireplace a lot more!

As soon as the temperature dips I love to flip the switch and sit by my fireplace.

I drink smoothies for breakfast everyday and in the winter it gets cold drinking them.

But with a gas fireplace I can easily sit by the fire while I drink my smoothie then turn it off when I’m done.

How to Create a Neutral Fireplace Mantel

I went with a white and green color scheme this year when decorating our fireplace mantel.

Last year I had more wood decor mixed in but this year I wanted to add more white.

I like how my white antique window frame pops against the color of the stacked stone.

Wanting to keep the mantel a bit more simple I decided to just decorate with candles and greenery.

I didn’t have any white candlesticks so I looked in a few home decor stores but I didn’t want to spend a lot of extra money on my mantel decor.

Instead, I decided to upcycle some old candlesticks that were collecting dust in a closet.

I also had several outdated pillar candle holders that were getting ready to be donated that I updated with chalk paint to give them new life for my Christmas mantel.

I saw this gorgeous natural grapevine wreath with bells at Kirklands and fell in love!

But it wasn’t on sale…boo!

And you know me I don’t like to buy anything at full price.

So I scrambled and pulled out my phone to see if I had an email with a coupon code.

Score…I found a coupon!

So I grabbed the wreath and headed to the check out.

Lucky for you it’s now on sale so go grab one for yourself here!

I knew the new natural wreath would look perfect hung from the antique window frame on my neutral Christmas fireplace.

It’s so pretty I may just leave it up all winter!

A trio of knit stockings hung to one side of the mantel brings some texture and more white color to the neutral Christmas fireplace.

The garland on the mantel started with a faux cedar garland that I had from last year.

But this year I added some real greenery clipped from the Leland Cypress and Pine trees in my backyard.

I love how much fuller the mantel looks with the real greens mixed in with the faux garland.

And I was even able to drape some of the real greenery down on the left side of the mantel.

How to Style a Neutral Fireplace Hearth

Sometimes the mantel gets all the glory but I love to dress up my hearth to coordinate with the theme.

I added a small flocked tree in a white woven rope basket on the left side of the mantel.

Love the glow if gives the bottom of the fireplace.

Next to the tree is a wood crate that always sits on our hearth filled with pillows.

To keep with the green and white color scheme I just swapped out our regular pillows for this chunky white knit pillow in front of a pretty velvet green pillow.

On the opposite side of the firebox a handmade wood lantern that I found at Vintage Market Days with a small green faux cedar wreath and candle.

I also couln’t help but tie a few fresh clippings on top with twine.

And our Christmas countdown calendar that we’ve had for years is green.

I mean how perfect is that!?
